Since I complained so much about the weather this year, I wanted everyone to know that I'm not always so whiny. I absolutely love the summer here! It is gorgeous and not too hot. When I think about Texas summers, I get a bit cranky. I have never experienced such overwhelming heat. It literally zaps the energy right out of you! And even though the winters here are quite long, I think that I would take them over the heat of Texas. The few times that it has felt a bit hot here, I think of the Texas heat and I no longer feel hot. Isn't that backwards? I thought that you were suppose to imagine coldness when you are hot. Well, imagining something hotter than what you are experiencing certainly does the trick too!
We live five minutes from the mountains and five minutes from the lake. The lake is big and beautiful and a great place to spend an afternoon. The evenings are cool and lovely; Texas does not know how to cool down, even when the sun is no longer shining. At night the sky is filled with stars that shine so bright; I can see more stars here than I have anywhere else. The complete absence of a city and the lights that go with it will do that for you!
I am thoroughly enjoying living here right now. I love living in the country. I love living in a small town. I even love the fact that I do my shopping an hour from where I live (I don't love the cost of gas right now). I love that my neighbors are farmers. I love that the majority of traffic on my road consists of tractors and cows. I love that everyone waves and says hello to everyone. I love that the lady at the post office knows my name (of course I don't know her name because I'm awful at remembering names). I love that this town still has dirt roads and no traffic lights. I love that life is simpler here.
I'm glad that I can slow down in life long enough to enjoy it. I'm glad that I'm not wishing my life away, hoping for the next big life event. I'm glad that I can appreciate this time in my life, realizing that it will be gone all too soon and I'll be left wondering where the time went. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. From where I stand right now, it's pretty green!

I think the complete opposite! I would rather put up with a hot southern summer for it's mild, short winters than the other way around!! I know what you mean about living in a small town, though. I miss the small town I lived in while we were in Nebraska. And I miss cows.
This is a lovely post! Where the heck do you live?? Seems weird that I have no idea. Wherever it is, it sounds pretty great. I've been really craving the country lately, which I find odd since I've never lived in the country! Maybe house #2 for Patrick and I can be something like what you are talking about...it's not really in the cards right now, unfortunately.
Bear Lake Jen....Bear Lake. I am so jealous, I want to live there. This is definitely a great opportunity for you, sounds like you're are enjoying it while it lasts.
