Spring?

Hooray. Spring is finally never going to show it's face here. I have had it with the snow! I'm done! I'm not speaking to it any longer. It is March 29th and we are still buried in snow. Everywhere else has tell-tale signs of spring. Flowers starting to poke their heads through the dirt. Grass starting to turn green. Trees budding. Oh, and the complete lack of snow! But no, we are still living in frozen tundra here! AHHHHHHHHH!!! I'm ready to head south. I have given snow my full and complete attention for FOUR long months and now I am done. I have gone sledding more times in the past few months then I care to remember. I have had snowball fights, built snowmen, and played king of the giant snow hill. No more! I want to see green. I want to sit outside in the sun and watch the kids play in the yard. I want to go outside WITHOUT wearing a coat. I want to plant things and watch them grow. So if you are enjoying the beauties and niceties of spring would you please send some of those warm vibes this way? I need some warm vibes to thaw out this place!

Garden Fort

I want to make one of these! How fun to have a little garden fort to play in! It shouldn't be too hard. I just need to draw up some plans. I'll use PVC pipe and netting. And I think I'll plant some climbing vines in planters so I can move the whole thing wherever I want. Now if the snow would only melt, I could start on this fun project!

Homemaking Meme

Here is a little homemaking meme. ("meme" is just a get-to-know you type of thing. And this one is about how I homemake!)

Aprons – Y/N? YES! I have just recently fallen in love with aprons. They make me feel pretty! I can still wear nice clothing at home and not worry about getting it messed up if I've got my apron on!
Baking – Favorite thing to bake? anything sweet!
Clothesline – Y/N? Nope
Donuts – Have you ever made them? No. We use to have a donut shop though. Does that count?
Every day – One homemaking thing you do every day? Just one? The dishes, make beds, clean the house. . . .etc.
Freezer – Do you have a separate deep freeze? Yes! Although, right now it is in storage and the artwork that use to decorate my house is stored in it.
Garbage Disposal – Y/N? Yes.
Handbook – What is your favorite homemaking resource? Hmm… good question. I guess I read articles and such on the internet. Most of the time I just pull something out of my head and hope it works. And if it doesn't then I ask the women in my life.
Ironing – Love it or hate it? Use to hate it. Now I love it. Smoothing out all the wrinkles is therapeutic for me. Maybe it helps me smooth out the wrinkles in other aspects of my life.
Junk drawer – Y/N? Where is it? YES!!! I have junk drawers, junk cupboards and a few junk closets. Too much junk!
Kitchen – Color and decorating scheme? My kitchen (in my old house ) had white walls which I wished were (wow, say that five times fast! white walls which I wish were) red. I had generic oak cabinets that I wished were antique white. I have a fruit theme for my decor, although I am thinking of redoing it. Any ideas?
Love – What is your favorite part of homemaking? The results of my efforts. I love a clean, orderly house. I love fresh, clean clothes. I love a healthy, delicious meal. I love coordinating and decorating my home so that it feels like home.
Mop – Y/N? Yes, well swiffer!
Nylons – Wash by hand or in the washing machine? I have yet to convert to nylons. I haven't worn them since I tried to put on a pair while pregnant with my first child. Don't go there!
Oven – Do you use the window or open the oven to check? I open the door; the window does not give me the view I need.
Pizza – What do you put on yours? I like everything! Well, pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, onions, olives, mushrooms, tomatoes, cheese.
Quiet – What do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment? I like to read, either a book or on the internet, or I'll watch a show at night.
Recipe card box – Y/N? Yes, and several papers of varying sizes with recipes hurriedly written upon, along with magazines and cookbooks.
Style of house – What style is your house? Again, speaking of my other house that I no longer live in (sniff, sniff); Nothing fancy, just a modern two-story home. Four bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. The exterior is part brick and part siding. The color is a pale yellow with sage green trim (shutters and the door). I always wanted to live in a yellow house!
Tablecloths and napkins – Y/N? Uggg. . .I fail. I don't even own a tablecloth. How un-homemaking is that? Tablecloths are so pretty! And we use paper towels for napkins. Another uggg.
Under the kitchen sink – Organized or toxic wasteland? Organized, but needs to be wiped down.
Vacuum – How many times per week? At least once, sometimes twice. (Note: I don't usually vacuum. It has fallen under the "Hubby's Duty" for some reason. I think he likes to vacuum!)
Wash – How many loads of laundry do you do per week? Depends on where we are in the rotation of clothing. If the kids still have clean clothes, we keep going! Okay, ummm. . .maybe 4-5. I should just conquer this whole laundry thing!
X’s – Do you keep a daily list of things to do that you cross off? Sometimes. I know I do better when I make a list and then can cross off my accomplishments. I just need to do it more!
Yard – Y/N? Who does what? Hubby pretty much does the majority of yard work. Although, we are planning on planting a garden and I'm sure I'll be doing my share!
Zzz’s – What is your last homemaking task for the day before going to bed? I start the dishwasher, make sure the kitchen is tidy, and climb in bed!

And I'm going to tag people. I tag Steffani, Cheyenne, April, Summer, and whoever else!

Bits and Pieces

Life is always an adventure when you live with a four year old and a two year old. Today, Sophie informed me that she wanted to watch, "Kinky-bell". Translation: Kinky-bell = Tinker Bell. Which means she wanted to watch "Peter Pan". So of course I had to turn it on for her because that's just the cutest think I have ever heard. And every time she saw Tinker Bell she would say Kinky-bell. Ahhhhhh! Another cute Sophism occurred when she was arguing with McKay. I kept hearing him say, "I am not beautiful!" At which point Sophie would counter with, "Phophie Beautiful!" And McKay would again say, "I am not beautiful!" and Sophie would answer, "Phophie Beautiful!" (Phophie is how she says her name.) I just had to smile!

McKay has been Harry Potter today. I found his lost Harry Potter wand while I was cleaning. I didn't know it was lost until I found it between the bed and the wall. Anyway, he's been running around, pointing his wand and yelling all sorts of enchantments at me. I'm sure that I'm going to turn into a Blast-ended something-or-other by the end of the night. The boy loves Harry Potter!

And in other news, the snow is melting. Finally! It certainly doesn't mean that we will have grass visible for Easter, but at least there will be a little less snow. It also means that everything is getting muddy. Blah! But hopefully the snow will all melt and things will start growing. I'm ready for some green. And McKay is ready to go to the beach. I told him when the snow was all gone that we could go. And today he saw the sun shining and water dripping and told me that the snow was melting and it was almost time to go to the beach!

Bowtie Festival

Yummy recipe! Sorry I don't have a picture.

Bowtie Festival
Ingredients:
4 cups heavy whipping cream
1 cup Asiago cheese (or Italian blend of cheeses)

1/2 stick butter
1 cup red onions, diced
1 cup bacon, cooked and chopped
2 Tbsp. garlic, chopped
1 cup Roma Tomatoes, diced
2-3 chicken breasts, cut into small pieces
2 lb. farfalle (bow-tie pasta), cooked

To make the sauce:
Heat cream to very hot and just bubbly (but not a boil).
Add cheese.
Stir constantly with a wire whisk and bring temperature back to just bubbly.

Other:
Saute red onion in butter, add bacon and garlic.
Add chicken and cook thoroughly
Add tomatoes and pasta.
Add Asiago cream sauce.
Heat thoroughly.

Of earaches and jeans

I got an earache on Friday. I can't even remember the last time I had one, but it was definately before I was a teenager. Ouch! I use to get them all the time as a child and just hated them. In fact, I remember praying every night that I wouldn't get an earache. Anyway, so I got this earache on Friday and felt miserable. I took a bunch of ibprofen but it just minimized the pain. And Friday night I woke up shaking from a fever. I can't remember shaking so much from a fever. Saturday I still felt miserable, with a few fleeting moments of relief. Luckily, Sunday morning I awoke to no pain; just in time to give my talk! I seriously hope that I don't have to experience another earache for a very, very long time. Or better yet, EVER!

And speaking of jeans, I fit into my favorite pair today! Wahoo! I haven't worn them for a year because it was just about this time last year that I found out I was pregnant and instantly gained like ten pounds. All I have to say is, OH YEAH! Especially to the nurse who chewed me out for gaining so much weight while I was pregnant and lectured me on how depressed I would be when I had the baby and then had all this weight to lose. Thanks, I've had three other children (four now) and have always lost the weight and definitely don't need to be told that I might have troubles losing it. So there! Take that ornery old nurse! Never tell a pregnant woman that she is gaining too much weight (i.e. you're getting fat) and tell her that she might not lose the weight after the baby comes. I mean really! I still have some toning to do, but I'm happy with the weight loss. And I think this is the fastest I have lost the weight in four pregnancies.

Crazy busy week

Man! It's been a crazy one. I've been busy editing photos from two photo sessions, trying to write a talk, prepare a lesson, and take care of the kids. We also had a propane scare. I thought a mouse had died in the house somewhere because it stank soooo badly. Turns out we ran out of propane and thought we might have a leak somewhere. Luckily, no leak. I guess it just starts to stink when you're running low on propane. Anyway, we've been back and forth between here and Cache Valley every day. I've been procasinating writing my talk and I'm running out of time so I better get to it.

Look who rolled over!

Layla learned how to roll over yesterday! It seems like as soon as they learn to roll over they are sitting up, crawling, and then walking in no time! She's just so cute!

Look what I can do now! Watch out world!

My photography business

I am currently working on building my photography portfolio and business. I thoroughly enjoy taking pictures and am excited to have my own business doing something I love! I am creating another blog dedicated to my photography. It will be the place I post my photographs, obviously, but also a place for my clients to get a sneek peek of their session. It's still in the works but I will let you know when it's up and running. In the mean time, if any one wants their pictures taken, let me know! I'm still working on the pricing, but I can promise a professional photography session and professional photo editing for a discounted price. If you have any questions you can email me at: tiffanyrosephotography@live.com.

McKay's Prayer

Last night McKay said the sweetest prayer. He's been praying for President Hinckley and I've been telling him he needs to pray for our new prophet, President Monsen. He usually has to stop mid-prayer and ask me who the new prophet is. But last night he said, "Thank you for. . . . . . . President Monsen. And thank you for Mommy and Daddy and me and Layla and Sophie and Emma. And thank you that Jesus died so we can live again." Is that not the cutest little prayer? He's been a real sweetheart lately!

1st, 2nd, and 3rd babies

Your clothes
1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your OB confirms that you are pregnant.
2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.
3rd baby: Your regular clothes ARE your maternity clothes.

The Baby's Name
1st baby: You pour over baby name books and practice pronouncing and writing combinations of all your favorites.
2nd baby: Someone has to name their kid after great aunt Mavis, right? It may as well be you.
3rd baby: You open a name book, close your eyes, and see where your finger falls. Bimaldo? Perfect.

Preparing for the Birth
1st baby: You practice your breathing regularly.
2nd baby: You don't bother practicing because you remember the last time. Breathing didn't do a thing.
3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in the 8th month.

The Layette
1st baby: You prewash your newborn's clothes, color coordinate them and fold them neatly in the baby's little bureau.
2nd baby: You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and discard only the ones with the darkest stains.
3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?

Worries
1st baby: At the first sign of distress - a whimper, a frown - you pick up your baby.
2nd baby: You pick up the baby when her wails threaten to wake your firstborn.
3rd baby: You teach your 3 year old how to wind the mechanical swing.

Activities
1st baby: You take your baby to baby gymnastics, baby swing and baby story hour.
2nd baby: You take your baby to baby gymnastics.
3rd baby: You take your baby to the supermarket and the dry cleaners.

Going Out
1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter, you call home 5 times.
2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to leave a number where you can be reached.3
rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call you only if she sees blood.

At Home
1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.
2nd baby: You spend a bit of every day watching to be sure your older child isn't squeezing, poking or hitting the baby.
3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.

Scary Mary

This is funny.

Dave and Layla

Cutie Pie

Daddy's Hands

A few more of Emma. . .

There's a barn behind the house that is a great place to take pictures. I took Emma out there and unfortunately she was less than thrilled to pose for me. But we managed to get a few good ones.

The best cake ever!

I made this cake yesterday and oh my gooodness was it good! Go make it right now! It's soooooo yummy!

Banana Sour Cream Cake

1 pkg. (2-layer size) yellow cake mix
3 eggs
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 3 bananas)
1 cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
1/4 cup oil
1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
1 pkg. (16 oz.) powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
1 cup PLANTERS Walnut Pieces, finely chopped

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 13x9-inch baking pan; set aside. Beat cake mix, eggs, bananas, sour cream and oil in large bowl with electric mixer on low speed just until moistened, stopping frequently to scrape bottom and side of bowl. Beat on medium speed 2 min. Pour into prepared pan.

BAKE 35 min. or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.

BEAT cream cheese and butter in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Gradually add sugar, beating well after each addition.

REMOVE cake from pan; cut crosswise in half. Place one cake half, top-side down, on large serving plate; spread top with frosting. Top with remaining cake half, top side up. Frost top and sides of cake with remaining frosting. Carefully press walnuts into frosting on sides of cake. Store in refrigerator.

My little model

Emma is a great little poser. Very helpful to me as I continue to hone my photography skills!
